SOCIETY is heading into our third full year, continuing to grow and develop dynamic new work. Your donations will determine the scope of that work in 2022.
In our first two years, we’re proud of what we accomplished:
– Premiered (virtually) our first full-length production, Beginning Days of True Jubilation, as part of the Obie-award-winning Ice Factory festival lineup at New Ohio Theatre, pulling in their largest audience to date for a festival run.
–Researched and workshopped our second full length production about Astrology and Spiritualism in the modern era, written by playwright Emily Zemba, which will premiere in rep this summer (June 2022) along with BDOTJ.
–Produced 13 Cheap Dates (our virtual performance happy hour) including over 75 short scenes and sketches, providing a recurring creative outlet during a time of artistic scarcity.
–Paid over 60 artists through BDOTJ and Cheap Date.
–Launched regular writing and directing incubators with Mona Mansour and Scott Illingworth for company members and guest artists.
–Announced a $50,000 grant program to provide no-strings-attached living stipends for 14 artists in need.
–Donated nearly half of all show proceeds to organizations & individuals in need, including the Okra Project, the Black Trans Travel Fund, the Lebanese Food Bank, and the See Lighting Foundation.
–Hosted our first Gala fundraiser, Star Party.
–Launched our brand-spanking-new website.
–Successfully funded our first ever Kickstarter campaign, fulfilling our campaign goal and ultimately raising nearly $35,000.
-Received our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt designation, making SOCIETY a non-profit charitable organization.
-Became a member of the Alliance of Resident Theatres in New York.
As a young company, our ability to pay our artists and produce more original, large-ensemble work relies on our generous community.
In 2022, we plan to produce not only our latest project, an exciting new piece by Emily Zemba about spirituality and wellness in the 21st century, but also a live production of Mona Mansour’s Beginning Days of True Jubilation.
Your contributions help us pay our actors, directors, playwright, designers, rent space, and much more.
The pandemic has hit our community particularly hard, and in this difficult time, we’re grateful for every dollar. Many thanks for your support.
